Update...

We've been very busy this fast few days. We had our Christmas Party last 17 Dec and it was great. We have a presentation/dance contest but unfortunately, we only placed 3rd. It was themed hits of the 80's. We did enjoy the dancing. We had a lot of fun. Don't have pictures though. I'll try to get hold of some. It should be hilarious as we had a member broke her heels while dancing, we have one that almost slipped (thank God, she didn't!)  and our one and only effect took off on the wrong time.

Our current director is so Cool! He's the pasimuno (promoter) of the festivities. When people starts to mellow, he's one saying, "Hey people! Cheer up!"

Well, that was all last Saturday. I just couldn't concentrate on the details 'cause right now I am so busy with work. After I finished these allotments, I'll try to post the details.

Smilies History

Ever wonder where our lovable smilies came from? I found this out over elouia's site and just have to share it. Big Smile       Happy Smiling!

Original Smilies

Harvey R. Ball

Richard Ball, co-owner of an advertising and public relations firm in Worcester, designed the Smiley Face in 1963 to help ease the acrimonious aftermath following the merger of two insurance companies.

A vice president ordered a "friendship campaign" to ease tensions between the bickering workers and hired Richard Ball to come up with a suitable graphic for a button.

"I made a circle with a smile for a mouth on yellow paper, because it was sunshiny and bright," he recalled in a 1996 interview with The Associated Press. Turning the drawing upside down, the smile became a frown. Deciding that wouldn't do, Ball added two eyes and the Smiley Face was born.

"There are two ways to go about it," he said. "You can take a compass and draw a perfect circle and make two perfect eyes as neat as can be. "Or you can do it freehand and have some fun with it. Like I did," Ball said. "Give it character."

Harvey Ball died in April 2001, survived by his wife and 3 kids.

Harvey Ball: "Never in the history of mankind or art has any single piece of art gotten such widespread favor, pleasure, enjoyment, and nothing has ever been so simply done and so easily understood in art."

The Peace Symbol

The smiley face button fad took root in the early 1970s.

In September of 1970 (two Spanish brothers from Philly, Murray and Bernard Spain) were casting about for some peace-like symbol with general appeal, they recalled seeing the smiley faces floating around for years in the advertising business and thus created the Smiley Button. It was a huge hit. By the end of 1972 it was estimated that over 50 million buttons were sold.

The Smiley Stamp

The 33 cent U.S. Stamp issued in 1999
The U.S. Postal Service unveiled the first smiley face postage stamp in Worcester on WSD (World Smile Day) 1999. World Smile Day was started in 1999 by Harvey Ball. The WSD (World Smile Day) committee includes members from the Worcester Historical Museum, the City of Worcester, the Office of Congressman Jim McGovern and the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation.

I AM GRATEFUL

When was the last time you thought about how good life is to you? Or is it how bad is life is to you?  I believe the first question is better as I believe that nothing happens without a reason however painful it is.

For me life has is good as I am already a grown woman now, many have passed away without reaching this age.

I am grateful I have already finished my College degree, though there were quite a few struggles, particularly in the financial side.

I am grateful I am employed at a generous company after a long time in a not-so-human company.

I am grateful that I am able to feel love after being quite dead, emotionally, for 7 years because I fell in love with a perfect guy.

I am grateful that he was my first boyfriend and my last ( i want him to! ) just like I prayed to God. then.

I am grateful that we are now on our fifth year and still counting!

I am grateful that I am able to afford quite few luxuries ( like my book collection ) which I wasn't able to before 'cause our income is just right.

I am grateful and lucky that I have still good friends despite that I feel that I am not worthy to be theirs because of lack of effort on my side.

I am grateful that God still listens to me and don't ignore me inspite that I know I do better.

I am grateful that I have found persons who loves me though I have lost someone before.

I am grateful that God tests me so I can become strong.

I am grateful for opportunities 'cause they let me experience something new.

I am grateful for talent and skills 'cause without them life seems dull.

I am grateful for the food on my table as some only eats once a day.

I am grateful for embraces and kisses 'cause they make me feel wonderful.

I am grateful for my sister 'cause its lonely to be alone.

I am grateful that I got to know my mother even for only 13 years because some didn't had a chance to see theirs.

I am grateful for my father, though we don't go along very well, others are far worse than mine.

I am grateful for my pets. They make me feel appriciated.

I am grateful I found reading. It has taken me to wonderful worlds I could have not known.

I am grateful for the sun as it still shines and give us light every day.

To finish this entry, 'cause I could go on and on...

I am grateful for those who had taken time to read this.

A thousand thanks.

What makes a great on-line journal?

I've just been blog hopping and  I can't help myself admiring them blogs that are so simple ( no graphics, effects etc ) but still manage to pick up interest of a lot.  Is it because I don't mind reading without pictures? No, I don't think so. One thing just stucks on my mind.

I don't need way too much graphics for people to read what I have to say.

Though, designs and pictures aren't bad at all. Its just that there are so many designs and styles out there that sometimes, when you want it all, your blog gets too crowded and ends up a sight for sore eyes.

Now what really composes a great on-line journal? Is it the contents? Is it the visuals? Which is more important? These for me are hard to answer. I'm just a babe from my mother's womb in regards with blogs. So far, I am currently reading a blog history over Wikipidea ( click
here ). I haven't made up my mind yet.

Why do I blog?

Our officemate kept asking us, What's up with blogging? Cause every breaktime we sit here in front of our computer and almost completely ignore everybody else. The question made me realize also, "Why do I Blog?"  You know what? I am.... speechless? I haven't given much thought about it.  I remember all too well, a time when my boyfriend got mad at me and said "Blogging is all you do! ". Well, I got addicted in making layouts for blogdrive. I think I had changed my layout for more than ten times before I finally settled with this layout which I borrowed (hope he doesn't mind . I still gave him credit though.  ) 'cause I still haven't learned how to make one on my own ( I'm getting there ).

Reasons why I blog...

  • Its relatively new to me. I love learning something new.  Its because of blogs I learned how to play with Adobe Photoshop ( my boyfriend is a big help though, he's an expert ) and I learned CSS and Html and a little bit of java.
  • It enhances my creativity in writing ( as if I have one ) and art ( frustation ) which I don't often got to practice since my work in mostly number and logic related.
  • I get to express myself and write down my thoughts which often changes.
  • I get to meet new friends ( hope I will ).
  • It makes me happy!

I believe I don't need a long list of why I keep on blogging. I just like it. Period.

ME, MYSELF & I

I am not really fond of talking about myself. I say that I am not interesting enough to be talked about (not that I don't like myself, I just feel that there's a lot more interesting stuff to talk about). Well... I guess this will be good for me to get-to-know myself better.

  • My nickname is Abbie. My full first name is Hazel Abigael.
  • I am twenty-four years old and will be 25 on the 27th of April. I am tauruean.
  • I am a certified bookworm (  I don't have an ID though, /heh ). I read everything from trash to boring stuffs.
  • I collect books. My latest addiction is Harry Potter in hardbound.
  • I love movies. I am also fond of the old ones like Casablanca, My Fair Lady. But  I also dig current movies like Harry Potter and Matrix Series.
  • I have a knack for naming title of songs which was popular about upto 40 years ago.
  • I love cats and dogs. I love the way cats can curl down your lap and purr while you hug them. But I also love the way dogs can lick your face and play with you.
  • I am a reformed Ragnarok Online addict. I still play but I got control over it unlike before that it has control over me.
  • I love getting hugs and kisses. It erases the loneliness I am feeling from time to time.
  • I used to want to be an architect. I stil love a great structure though.
  • I used to want to be a writer but I often write sad stories back then so I quit. I don't want my readers to  be depressed as I am.
  • I used to want to be painter but I accepted the fact that I don't have the talent and passion for it.
  • I used to like chocolates, however I still like sweets.
  • I love being barefoot. If we could only live a day without shoes, it'll be very nice.
  • I love my boyfriend. He means the world to me.
  • I love my family.  My sister and dad are all I have.
  • I am a loner by nature. I like being all by myself.
  • I am dreamer. I still believe in dreams and miracles and making them happen.
  • I believe that God lets everything happen, good or bad, for a purpose.
  • I used to have really short hair. I love the 'do but I look like a boy.
  • I love hotdogs! I can eat one everyday..
  • I am financially independent now for four years but stil haven't got a savings.
  • I am a coffee addict..

I guess that's all for now. Some of my ideas left my brain 'cause its already late in the evening. Its a shame that my first draft was lost because of tecnicalities. If you want to see my profile click here. I haven't written much though 'cause my eyes hurts a lot nowadays. Not to mention the busyness of the season  . This was a good exercise.
